I spent a lovely day recently celebrating my birthday with lunch and a wander round Oxford, which is beautiful all the time but particularly fine on a fine summer's day.
We stepped out of the sunshine to call in to Objects of Use (I was in my element, Spence was just puzzled - heathen). We spent far too much on books in the new Bodleian Library shop and we may* have carried a tray of highly calorific doughnuts around with us in lieu of a birthday cake
But the main purpose of our trip was to have lunch at the Turl Street Kitchen which is always good and I'm glad to say, didn't disappoint. The menu changes daily but is always based around fresh, seasonal ingredients and the stripped pine tables, chalkboard menus and pots of geraniums make the whole experience rather pleasing. Plus they do GREAT coffee.
Then it was home for boy collecting, doughnut tower building, doughnut scoffing and post-dinner champagne quaffing. All in all a rather lovely day.
* We totally did. And they were awesome.
