Photo overload alert! This post is what you could describe as ‘image heavy’ but it’s Giffords Circus for heaven’s sake. The whole delicious spectacle is a visual feast of the most wonderful kind. It simply wouldn’t be right not to pack this piece full to overflowing with photographs right?
For those not in the know, Giffords Circus is a wonderful, old-fashioned small circus that tours around the village greens and pub gardens of the Cotswolds during the summer months. Started in 200 by Nell Gifford, sister of Emma Bridgewater, Giffords has to be seen to be believed. And seeing it is one of our family’s yearly highlights, it is that special.
This year’s show, entitled Lucky 13, promised to be a much darker affair and looking back at my photographs from last year’s show, that’s definitely true in terms of staging, but the comedic magic, the fabulous characters, the wonderful costumery and absolute sheer brilliance of the performers hasn’t changed, in fact, I think if anything, this year’s show was even more spellbinding than last year’s.
If you have a chance to go, do. It’s utterly wonderful. Tickets are still available for the last few venues in Frampton, Minchinhampton, Bath, Marlborough and Cirencester and if you catch the last show of each day, you can dine in the beautiful Circus Sauce restaurant tent and dine alongside the stars of the show.
