* A portrait of my children, once a week, every week in 2013*

Xavi - it was mini enterprise week at school last week. Xavi spent his 50p on a moustache, pop corn, a mini motorbike and a peperami. Adding our soon-to-be-made scarecrow’s hat and hey presto, a Mexican bandito!

Louis - looking a little like a Bond villian at the optician’s. He was intrigued by the model eyeball and decided along with the optician that peering into the back of the eye can also reveal the colour of your brain. The optician revealed that Louis’ brain is blue and Xavi’s is green and apparently, this is what determines your favourite colour.

I think calling these two photographs ‘portraits’ is a bit of a stretch. Snatched i-Phone snaps is perhaps more accurate.

I had such high, artistic plans for this project but we’re almost half way through the year now and I’m finding the opportunities for a beautifully staged photograph of my boys in dappled light are few and far between. Blame in on our Northern Hemisphere weather or on the project being a bit of a busman’s holiday (I spent a vast amount of last week photographing a seemingly endless stream of nursery-aged children). Either way, I am thinking I must do better.

What do you think? You can see my previous weeks’ portraits here. I’m thinking if this was a college project, I’d get a 'must try harder’ comment scrawled across my portfolio…

As ever, I’m joining in with Jodi and everyone else taking part in the weekly portrait series.
