I managed to take the day off on Friday and after the ‘joy’ of the food shopping and a cheeky stop for a flat white, I headed off to my favourite treasure trove of an antique shop for a spot of browsing (ahem…).
I particularly love this shop because it is split into different rooms, at the front are lots of bits and pieces of upcycled furniture, vintage books and fabrics mixed in with the odd new thing. In the middle section, there are proper old trinkets, an impressive range of vintage crockery and jewellery and more eiderdowns than anyone would possibly ever need.
Upstairs is a veritable twenties palace and outside you can gorge yourself on reclaimed stone and terracotta to your heart’s content.
I was pretty restrained and only came away with these lovelies. An old Ladybird book on the night sky which is a great read, a pigeonhole box I have no idea where to put, some scraps of fabric (for my long-imagined patchwork quilt project) and these ace rubber stamps. Not antique at all but hey, fun all the same…
Next week is half term and among the myriad of activities to keep us busy in the rain and sleet, we’re going to be making homemade pizzas, kitchen table dens, lots of lego and finally changing our bedrooms about. Watch this space for an update on how all that goes. Yes, I know it would be WAY more sensible to attempt such a big and messy project whilst the boys are at school but I couldn’t justify taking a day off to rearrange stuff so this week it is. Might fit in a cheeky trip to Ikea too….
If you’re on half term this week too, have a good one!
